Customer Success Story- University Research Division: Steve Laine

By Shopify API March 26, 2019

Maryland sales rep Steve Laine has been with Whitaker Brothers for two years. In his time here he has developed many close relationships with his customers, but none of them stick out to him as much as this one.  Steve has recently installed a Datastroyer 125 Disintegrator to a research division of a major University here in Maryland, and his experience with this customer was exceptional. The school approached Steve about a year and a half ago with an issue. They had plans on constructing a new building with a room inside designed specifically for data destruction. They wanted to purchase a disintegrator that would be able to fit in the room and provide them with the expert data destruction that they needed. This customer has been a long time client of Whitaker Brothers and has built up a relationship over time so it was a no brainer for them to come to us with their problem. [caption id="attachment_5063" align="alignright" width="300"]steve-2-1 Steve spending some quality time admiring the Datastroyer 125 from across the web page[/caption] Steve visited the campus many times to get a feel for what the school really needed, and which product would work best for them. They decided on the Datastroyer 125 Disintegrator with sound enclosure and air system, because it would meet all of their shredding needs including paper, CDs DVDs, and badges among other items. While the customer did seek out solutions from other vendors in their initial research phase, they ultimately settled on Whitaker Brothers. “We are the best due to the equipment we bring to the table and the support the Whitaker team offers,” Steve said. “Between offering support, parts, servicing, and contracts we provide a good team effort to satisfy our customers”. As with all high-dollar sales, there was a little bit of hesitation on the customer’s side before purchasing. Would the machine fit inside the room? Would it be powerful enough? Steve invited representatives from the school to our Rockville, MD location to demo the disintegrator in our warehouse. They were able to view the machine in action to ensure it’s just what they wanted. One specific feature that “sold” this customer on the machine was the sound enclosure. They were impressed that even while the disintegrator was in operation, it was still quiet enough to conduct other matters while standing in the same room. Steve went above and beyond his duty as a salesperson to make that the school was satisfied. Along with respecting the timeline and abiding by their budget, Steve took many trips out to the school for site visits, and even assisted in the delivery to assure that all went smoothly. Even after installation, Steve has remained in contact with the school to ensure that the disintegrator continues to run as expected, and will continue following up with the school as needed. In return, Steve is satisfied with the work that he has done getting disintegrator up and running in the schools data destruction room. “It’s neat knowing the type of work that they do, and having a hand in the overall process,” he said. “It’s cool since they focus on the defense and space industry, and I hear that one of their rockets has been launched, I think to myself, ‘Maybe I had something to do with that’”.
