Shred away your bad memories: Good Riddance Day 2012

By Shopify API March 26, 2019

Watch out New Year's Eve, you may have some competition.  New York City is widely known for the ever popular New Year's Eve bash in Times Square.  However, there seems to be a new holiday on the block, growing in popularity and notoriety each year.  Since December 2007, people have flocked to New York City in hopes of forgetting the old and welcoming in a new year with the event appropriately known as "Good Riddance Day."  Good Riddance Day offers people the opportunity to shred any documents they wish to leave behind in 2012.  In addition, a large dumpster and sledgehammer are also offered for those memories that can not be simply shredded away.

The point of this holiday is simple: let go of the burdensome past and look ahead to the future.  From the parking tickets, to the credit card bills, to even even old love letters, this day is to dedicated to the people hoping to move forward.  Good Riddance Day is inspired by an old Latin American tradition, where participants stuffed certain artifacts or bad memories into giant dolls and lit these dolls on fire.  Although today's individuals will not be setting their memories ablaze, their documents will nevertheless be instantly destroyed before their eyes.  If you are in or near NYC today, stop by Broadway Plaza from 12 pm until 1 pm and discard any unwanted papers you wish to forget.  Not only is this a great way to destroy any past memory, this Cintas sponsored event has even been turned into a contest.  Two winners will be named, one individual and one business.  Businesses are encouraged to become clutter free and organized, and remain dedicated to secure management of private information.  The most creative "good riddance" will be selected and prizes will be awarded, such as a free document clean-out or tickets to the official New Year’s Eve 2013 Party in Times Square. For those individuals destroying computer or laptop hard drives, a word of caution.  Although pounding away at your hard drive with a sledgehammer sounds like the perfect way to destroy information (and relieve a little built up stress from the holidays), this may not be the securest way to eliminate data.  To ensure complete erasure of your memories or data featured on your hard drive, we encourage you to first degauss your device.  After that, feel free to hammer your drive to bits and pieces. Why allow bad memories to continually plague your mind?  Get up and get out to Good Riddance Day, making sure you start 2013 fresh and worry free!  Not going to be in NYC tomorrow?  No matter.  We offer the best home and office shredders on the market!  Whether you seek a small personal shredder, larger office shredder, or industrial sized paper shredder, we can help you choose the perfect machine for your needs!
