Description of the Cumberland 6516 Beside-The Press Granulator (65 Series)
As the largest of the Cumberland 65 Series, the Cumberland 6516 Beside-The Press Granulator has a 6.5" x 16" cutting chamber capable of a throughput of up to 300 pounds per hour. The system also features a "multi feed" hopper that can be used in any number of settings. From a handfed operation to robotic delivery, this hopper will work well in almost any application. The design also allows the unit to be reversed to receive feedstock or even to have the entire flap assembly removed instead. The bolted and doweled cutting chamber ensures maximum efficiency as it is equipped with durable and intelligent gear. The bearings on the cutting chamber are outboard mounted and permanently sealed to prevent grease or dust from cross contaminating. The rotor is equipped with three HC D2 blades and there are an additional two blades on the bed. The blades used are part of Cumberland's technology and deliver accurate and scissor-like cuts. Additionally, the Cumberland 6516 Beside-The Press Granulator can handle such a variety of materials and feedstock because of the high inertia flywheel that triggers the automatic drive belt tensioning. This way, the throughput can be maintained on a continuous basis. The screen is available in a range of sizes and can even be upgraded to a wear resistant version.
The open rotor design also ensures flexible and reliable cutting and the rotating end discs keep things cool to prevent wear and tear on the system. The TEFC motor delivers 3 HP and is operated by NEMA Type 12 controls. Features include start and stop push buttons and safety interlocks that also guarantee user safety. The Cumberland 6516 Beside-The Press Granulator can be easily and safely maintained and will accept many different upgrades for those who need them. Applications such as edge trims from sheet extrusion, small parts and tubes, and injection molded runners are typical for the unit, but users can add options to increase capability. Currently, options include larger motors, staggered knives, a wear resistant rotor, wear resistant screen and chamber components, and a compressed air system for discharging functions. There is also an option for sound enclosure to reduce noise levels for quieter settings.
